How is everyone coping with the heat? My pack and I are struggling! Trying to burn off the pent-up energy without melting (or having a meltdown…usually mine!) is quite a challenge! Fortunately, we’ve found a few reliable shady spots.
One of our favorite summer spots is Rebecca’s Private Dog Park in North Raleigh. Rebecca, her daughter, and their adorable golden retriever, Millie, enjoy sharing their clean, flat, open .5-acre backyard with other owners and their pups. Millie has a few fears of her own so this family understands the importance of safe, secure off-leash places for dogs to roam.
As part of the Sniffspot network, you can rent Rebecca’s backyard for just you and your pups to enjoy. Thirty minutes is usually the right amount of time for our pack. Charlie, Sadie, and Rorie sniff for a few minutes and then enjoy some chasing and wrestling. We often end our visit with a game of fetch, and Rebecca provides thoughtful touches like a bucket of tennis balls if you forgot yours. Rebecca’s fence line borders neighboring houses with dogs that may sometimes be visible and bark. We’ve seen them a couple of times and haven’t had any issues with our pups, but owners of reactive pups should be aware.
The yard is full of mature landscaping, which provides lots of shade. If you’re looking for something a little fancier, or a summer storm pops up, you can enjoy the covered gazebo and seating while the pups play. Sadie and Rorie often host playdates for some of their furry friends in this yard (Charlie doesn’t love dogs outside his pack, so he enjoys some alone time at home with a frozen Kong!). The humans tend to gather under the gazebo to watch the dogs and chat. Both humans and dogs really enjoy this spot for playdates – it’s just the right size and type of yard for a group of 4-5 dogs to play. And, if all of these perks aren’t enough to encourage you to visit Rebecca’s spot, I have one more. Rebecca’s yard is just 5 minutes away from one of the Triangle’s most dog-friendly nurseries – Homewood Nursery and Garden. We’ll be reviewing this spot soon, so be sure to check back for details on that adventure! In the meantime, visit Sniffspot to reserve Rebecca’s spot!
Keep exploring!
